Fabrics are most commonly used in banners to provide
a roll-up solution for temporary signage needs. Size is practically
unlimited, and for very large applications special material can
be used which is porous to allow the wind to pass through it.
In a similar vein, rigid and semi-rigid porous materials
are available which can be printed with a design on one side and
appear opaque, yet can be seen through from the other side. Such
materials can often be seen on the back of buses to provide a surface
to apply the advertisement to while still allowing the driver and
passengers to see out of the windows on which the material is applied.
The image on the right below is an extreme close
up of one of the model's eyes, showing the porous nature of the
fabric.
