metal lettering for signsMetals

Metal is used in three ways in signage -

  • for larger signs, as a covered surface on to which the sign (usually vinyl) is applied
  • for plaques, as an uncovered surface on to which the sign is etched
  • as the sign itself in the form of metal lettering.

Metal as a Sign Surface
Metal is used as a sign surface in all sorts of places from small newsagent-style signs to huge bill-boards. In all these cases the metal acts purely as a convenient surface on to which to apply the sign, (usually vinyl graphics) and is typically aluminium or stainless steel.

Plaques
More expensive metals such as brass or stainless steel are used for plaques to be in keeping with the special occasion that they normally denote.

Metal Lettering
Metal lettering lends a sign that touch of class that may be missing from other formats and is often used for architectural signage. It denotes permanence, reliablilty and dependability. Available metals range from stainless steel and aluminium for the modern look, to brass for the more traditional image. Bear in mind that brass requires a lot of polishing to keep it looking good, although it can be plated with silver or gold to keep it looking pristine and really make it sparkle.

We stock a wide range of fonts and styles and can advise you on which metal would work best for your application, or if you already have exact requirements we're just as happy to work to them.
